After being inspired initially by the shadows she saw in the grasses of trees and the shadows she saw on the trees, she set out in developing a process that does not portray the object in a 2D image. It is more like the image has been transformed to the artist's own image which is based its interpretation from the artist. This is especially effective when working with living things or items that are perishable like fruits and people. Alexa Meade's distinctive style of painting which is very ephemeral in the sense that it is amorphous, transparent. The only work from her work that is preserved is the photograph. Techniques of photography and painting are closely coordinated and result in a flat, two-dimensional space which achieves trompe-l'oeil. The only parts of the image like hair and eyes, show the third dimension. Meade will sometimes integrate her painting into the environment around her, which allows for her to work within the context of their own. The lines between performance, installation, photography and painting can be dissolved.
